Different types of endoscopy

Depending on the region examined by the physician, endoscopy is given a particular term. Each type also uses a diverse variety of endoscope that takes its name from the procedure. Some common categories are:
Upper Endoscopy: When the upper section of the small intestine, stomach, and esophagus are examined with a superior endoscope. The time required for this is 20 to 30 minutes. Anyone who is tested should refrain from drinking and eating for at least 6 to 8 hours before the test.
Bronchoscopy: When an evaluation of large airways, also known as Bronchi, is performed inside the lungs with a bronchoscopy. The whole procedure can be completed in 30 minutes. There are restrictions related to food and beverages that should be followed along with some precautions related to teeth and mouth.
Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy: When investigating the different parts of the lower digestive tract using a scope and a colonoscope. While sigmoidoscopy can take only 10-15 minutes, colonoscopy can last from 30 to 45 minutes. An enema is given to the patient in charge of sigmoidoscopy, i.e. the examination of the rectum and the inferior colon. But colonoscopy only requires complete cleaning of the bowls with diet modifications and laxatives.
In addition to the four types of endoscopies explained above, there are some others. These are used to see and examine the abdomen and joints. They are carried out creating a small incision through which the camera can enter. Each type of procedure comes with its own level of pain and discomfort. In general, with the exception of sigmoidoscopy, all other techniques require sedation. Sigmoidoscopy can be done safely with only pain medication.

Symptom diagnosis: endoscopies such as colonoscopy give physicians the freedom to detect irregularities that cause adverse symptoms. A direct view of the organs or images of anomalies may help to find out why rectal bleeding occurs. If the endoscope is connected to an ultrasound, it can be used to take pictures of the surrounding organs.
Disposal of foreign bodies: when using the camera in the tube, physicians can identify the presence of a foreign body. Foreign bodies, which may be present in the gastrointestinal tract or lungs, can be safely removed.
